Accessibility Statement

Davis County is committed to making its website usable by everyone, including people with disabilities. If something on this site does not work for you, please tell us and we will help.

Our accessibility standard

This website was rebuilt in 2026 to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. This is the technical standard that the U.S. Department of Justice adopted for state and local government websites in its rule under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

What we have done

  • Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, and keyboard focus is always visible.
  • Pages use real headings, lists, tables and landmarks so screen readers can move through them, and a “Skip to main content” link is the first thing on every page.
  • Text and controls meet WCAG color contrast requirements. Color is never the only way information is shown.
  • Text can be enlarged to 200% and pages reflow to a narrow screen without scrolling sideways.
  • Images that carry information have text alternatives; decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • Forms have visible labels, instructions and clear error messages, and they do not use image puzzles (CAPTCHA).
  • Links to documents say what the file is, its type and its size, for example “January 12, 2026 minutes (PDF, 118 KB)”.
  • Nothing on the site moves, flashes or plays sound on its own.
  • We test pages with automated tools and by hand, using a keyboard and a screen reader, and we check new content before it is published.

Known limitations

We are still working on some content. If you need any of it in another format, contact us and we will provide it.

  • Older documents. Some PDF files posted before 2026, such as older meeting minutes, ordinances and forms, may not be fully accessible. We are fixing or replacing them, starting with the documents people use most.
  • Maps. Some maps, such as election precinct maps, are images. We are adding text descriptions.
  • Other websites. Some links go to services run by other organizations, such as the State of Iowa, property search, jail communication and payment services. Davis County does not control the accessibility of those websites. If you have trouble with one of them, contact us and we will help you get the information or service another way.
